Whose Design Is It Anyway - CCK08 Style

I am going to start this post by saying it is
going to be a short one.  The ideas are percolating, I just have not
yet formed the final thought, I just thought I would briefly share the
direction I am going looking for input.

After reading this weeks papers and watching the presentation by
George and thinking of Connectivism as overall encompassing theme for
Education (I have had to rework my Mind Map by the way, original
concept did not work, here it is…)

    But
how does one design a course using the principles of Connectivism as
the support for the entire Instructional Design of the course?
Connectivism requires us to be flexible adapt to new situations,
incorporate learning as it becomes available, take into account both
Complexity and Chaos, in a social learning environment.  Sounds like a
very tall order indeed, however insights and ideas can be gained from
the strangest places:

Whose Line Is It Anyway may not be the solution or even entirely
the right direction.  But to witness to incorporation of new
information, in a complex mental setting, and then apply the knowledge
must mean what we are trying to accomplish can be done.  However we
must realize that these are trained professionals with years of
experience, what can be done with Grade 7’s that have a hard time
figuring out not to block the doorway that the bikes come out of (after
we are in our 5th day of the biking unit…)

I think it is great to share work in progress. It is fascinating to compare a structured curriculum with improvisation and your post invites the reader to do this! I have always thought about teaching as a performance that requires enormous energy each moment of the school day.

From your input into the Elluminate sessions I think of you as a Whose Line Is It Anyway teacher who ignites children’s engagement in learning opportunities … a Mr Holland (of Mr Holland’s Opus). I do think connectivism offers a way to develop a dynamic, exciting classroom environment if the curriculum gives space for innovation.

I would find it very difficult to be in a classroom where I had limited freedom to individualise (differentiate) learning for each child.

Thanks for the post … not sure i responded to your questions but you have helped me clarify my thoughts!

  3. I agree that an air of improvisation is needed, however that is just my personal feelings and probably an inherent character trait (some would say flaw).

But is my approach to teaching an instructional design, is it what the students want, or how I would like to teach and learn…
